With the start of the 2018 EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League season just over 4 weeks away, the BCSPL office is pleased to release its 2018 phase 1 schedule from March through June.  As per the BCSPL’s traditional ‘club vs club’ schedule, opening weekend will see Coquitlam Metro-Ford SC host Surrey United SC, Fusion FC welcomes Thompson Okanagan FC, Coastal FC will visit Mountain United FC, and Fraser Valley Premier will make the trip to Victoria to play the Vancouver Island Wave.

Highlights of the 2018 phase 1 schedule:

· Opening weekend is March 3/4, pushing back the start date one week.  This change was made due to the weather and field issues in late February over the last 2 seasons that caused many cancellations and postponements of those February games.  Many clubs are taking this opportunity to further enhance preseason plans, with numerous teams heading to the US for planned tournaments and exhibition play.  Also, the U13 lower mainland teams have been participating in a pilot futsal program in Surrey that finishes on February 26.

· The 3rd annual College ID Weekend will take place in Kamloops over the May 26/27 weekend.  With 24 university coaches attending in 2017, this event has become a key part of the BCSPL’s spring showcase platform.  Bringing the BCSPL boys and girls U16 and U17 teams together in one location, along with the addition of several Alberta tier 1 teams, means this showcase weekend will be bigger and better than ever.  Alberta clubs participating on the female side includes teams from Calgary Foothills, Calgary Southwest United, Calgary Blizzard, Sherwood Park and Scottish United.  Alberta boys teams taking part include Edmonton Inter, Calgary West SC, and Calgary Foothills.

· Continuing another year of a strong partnership with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, the BCSPL U15 through U18 teams will once again participate in the Whitecaps FC College Showcase on Easter Weekend.  Games will take place March 30-April 1 at Newton Athletic Park in Surrey, with upwards of 100 university coaches in attendance.

· For the first time since the BCSPL's inception, the Vancouver Island Wave will be hosting the Provincial Premier Cup Championships on the June 23/24 weekend.
